The Seiko 4th Series World Time, models 6117-6400 and 6117-6409, represents the final iteration of Seiko’s mechanical World Time watches, first produced in November 1969. This redesigned series introduced several key updates, including a new case, crown, bracelet, dial finishes, hands, and bezel, as well as the upgraded 6117B movement featuring hacking seconds for enhanced precision.
The 6117-6400 was designated for Japanese and international markets, while the 6117-6409 was tailored for North America. Powered by the automatic 6117B movement, the watch operates at 3Hz (21,600 bph) and was produced until December 1976.
Key features include a 41mm case with a polished finish, available in stainless steel or gold/gilt, and a screw-down case back. The 44mm lug-to-lug distance and 20mm lug width ensure comfortable wear.
The dial comes in either silver linen or black. The silver linen dial displays a subtle texture, while the black dial offers a more pronounced linen pattern, accented with a reddish-orange 24-hour ring and black bezel highlights. The white and golden-hued dials feature hour and minute hands with a black stripe, while the black dial is fitted with metallic hands that have a distinctive ridge along the center.
This refined design, blending functionality with timeless aesthetics, makes the Seiko 4th Series World Time a standout in vintage mechanical watch collections.
