This timepiece is a genuine artifact from the era when Seiko truly began its ascent to global dominance! The Seiko Marvel, first introduced in 1956, was a breakthrough for the company- being the first truly in-house movement designed entirely by Seiko's Suwa division to replace the Swiss-derived movements they had previously used. This watch represents the foundation upon which the entire future of Seiko's mechanical superiority was built- making it the grandfather of the Grand Seiko!
The dial proudly features the "Diashock 19 Jewels" designation. Diashock is Seiko's proprietary shock-resistant mechanism (similar to Incabloc)- a feature that protected the delicate balance staff jewels and was a key advancement in durability and accuracy. This particular 19-Jewel variant, often referenced as the Caliber 560, is a high-grade version of the movement. The case back confirms its Manual-Wind operation and Japan origin.
Aesthetically- the simple- round case and clean dial with applied markers adhere to the timeless mid-century dress watch style. The focus here is on precision and foundational history- making it a powerful statement for the discerning collector who understands the roots of Japanese horological excellence.
