In the late 1980s, the Seiko Auto Quartz 7M12-7A00 was an innovative hybrid watch that combined quartz accuracy with automated winding. Battery changes are not necessary because it generates power using a rotor and stores it in a capacitor. A landmark in horological innovation, this model was one of the first to use Seiko's now-famous Kinetic technology. In addition to offering quartz accuracy and the attraction of mechanical motion, the 7M12 frequently had a transparent case back that displayed the inventive rotor mechanism within. It connected traditional and modern watchmaking at a period of transition and was housed in sleek, sophisticated casings. Due to its historical significance, durability, availability, and pivotal role in the development of energy-harvesting quartz timepieces, it is now prized by collectors.
