This timepiece is an undeniable icon of the 1970s and a must-have for any serious chronograph collector. The Seiko Bullhead, reference 6138-0040, gets its famous nickname from the placement of the crown and chronograph pushers at the top of the case- reminiscent of a bull's horns. This design feature was originally intended to make the controls easier to use while driving, as the driver's wrist would be resting on the steering wheel. The watch is powered by the brilliant Seiko Caliber 6138, a fully integrated Automatic Chronograph movement featuring the highly desired Vertical Clutch and a 12-hour sub-counter, giving it significantly more functionality than its 6139 cousin.
The dial is a visual feast- featuring the classic two-register layout with the prominent 12-hour register at 6 o'clock and the 30-minute register at 3 o'clock. The integrated bracelet and large, sloping case emphasize its aggressive, sport-luxe aesthetic, perfectly capturing the confidence of the decade. The caseback confirms its original JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) origin. This is a technical marvel and a true piece of racing history!
